Since the acquisition by HPE last year, Simplivity has become the main hyperconverged solution in the HPE portfolio.
That solution became very popular since the release on HPE Proliant Gen10 hardware last year October timeframe.
Now comes a big next step in the Simplivity story with the announcement of Microsoft Hyper-V as hypervisor for the platform. So far it was VMware only. Now customers have a choice for their preferred hypervisor.
All the stuff you can expect from a Simplivity solution are there: built-in always-on deduplication and compression thanks to the hardware accelerator card in the nodes, integrated backup with instantaneous restores build on DL380 Gen10 hardware.
Management will be handled by Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) by means of an Add-in in SCVMM.
At launch the (most popular) Small and Medium nodes will be available, the other models are planned in a later time frame.
With the initial release, 2-node clusters will be supported with up to 8 nodes in a federation (2+2+2+2). These numbers are planned to grow with future releases of the software.
Underlying Microsoft components used will be 1 or more Host Groups with a Windows Failover Cluster underneath it protecting the VM’s. All data with be handled by the OmniStack Virtual Controller OVC just like with the VMware solution.
