Barely 2 weeks after the announcement of the SimpliVity 380 G model, HPE announced some new updates in their HCI hyperconverged SimpliVity portfolio.
2 new hardware models are announced at HPE Discover 2019, and HPE InfoSight will take care ofall HPE SimpliVity based solutions as well from now.
HPE SimpliVity 325
HPE adds AMD EPYC processors in the HCI portfolio with this SimpliVity 325 model.
It is positioned as a highly dense 1U appliance that scales in 1U increments.
Therefore, it is ideal for ROBO, Edge and SMB deployments.
2 models will be available at launch:
- XSmall – 4 x 1,92TB SSD’s – 5TB effective capacity
- Small – 6 x 1,92TB SSD’s – 7,5TB effective capacity
Further specifications include the choice of 16core to 32core CPU’s and memory up to 2TB.
This is like the 380 G model a software-optimized node, so no accelerator card in this model. All the data efficiency is handled by the CPU in the system.
Good to see that it is possible to mix SimpliVity 325 models in a same federation with other 380 based nodes.
HPE SimpliVity 380 H
This new SimpliVity 380 H models is like the G model a software-optimized node, so no accelerator card either.
This model is the first hybrid model in the HPE SimpliVity portfolio including 4 x 1,92TB SSD and 8 x 4TB SAS drives in an LFF configuration.
This gives an effective capacity of 23TB per appliance.
Therefore, it is ideally positioned for archive, backup and DR use cases.
InfoSight
A long-waited feature is the integration of HPE SimpliVity in InfoSight, besides HPE Nimble, 3PAR and Proliant servers. This was the obvious next step.
InfoSight will provide system details at the federation, cluster, and host levels for historic capacity utilization, trends, resource consumption and prediction
It will provide visibility to top performing VMs and a unified view of the HPE assets in the Federation.
It alleviates support issues and reduces operational expenses with automated wellness alerts and case creation from inside the InfoSight and SimpliVity consoles.
This makes the portfolio of HPE SimpliVity rather complete, from small to extra large (capacity) nodes, applicable for all workloads with choice of models with and without accelerator card. Including InfoSight! Future looks good!
