HP released a new technical white paper on a HP 3PAR StoreServ 7200 Storage array and HP ProLiant BL460c Gen8 Server Blades solution for Microsoft® Exchange Server 2013, based on the Microsoft Exchange Solution Reviewed Program (ESRP) –Storage program.
This solution implements the Database Availability Group (DAG) mailbox resiliency feature found in Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 (Exchange). This feature is the base component of the high availability and site resilience framework built into Exchange. A DAG is a group of up to 16 mailbox servers that hosts a set of databases and provides database-level recovery from failures that affect individual servers or databases.
This solution brief describes a tested configuration for deploying Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 (Exchange) in a 6,000- user, mailbox-resilient environment. The performance results and best practices outlined in this document provide tested guidelines for configuring Exchange with HP 3PAR StoreServ 7200 and HP ProLiant BL460c Gen8 Server Blades in a SAN storage solution.
This solution used a single DAG to support 6,000 mailboxes, each with a 5 GB mailbox capacity and a work profile of 200 messages sent and received for each user, each day. Four copies of each database provide mailbox resiliency, with two copies located at the primary site and two copies located at the disaster recovery site.
