More composability with HPE OneView 4.2

HPE released the latest version of its software-defined infrastructure management platform called HPE OneView 4.2.

Since the release of version 1.0 more than 5 years ago, more than 1 million licenses were sold already, quite an impressive number.

With this new version released there are again some important additions in the already long feature list.

What’s new

The list with supported hardware got a bit longer :

  • Nimble support : Besides StoreVirtual and 3PAR, now also Nimble arrays on iSCSI are supported. Volumes will be created inside OneView and connected directly with the hosts through the Server Profiles or Templates.
  • 32Gb FlexFabric switch and VC FC modules inside the Synergy line
  • The newly announced Composable Cloud for Proliant DL private cloud solution

Some other nice features are :

  • iLO configuration from server profile : it is now possible to enable the configuration of the iLO settings through the Server Profiles and/or Templates. Users can save time by avoiding working directly on individual iLOs by being able to configure the iLO directly from HPE OneView.
  • Enhanced Inventory : new detailed infrastructure inventory for HPE ProLiant Gen 10 servers includes granular information on memory, NIC, HBA and Smart Array storage components. This feature allows customers to manage the most secure servers in the industry in a more detailed process.
  • 8 PF’s (Physical Functions) on Synergy NICs instead of 4
  • IPv6 support : This new feature gives users that have upgraded to IPv6 the capability and flexibility to use all of HPE OneView’s features and benefits.

 OneView Global Dashboard

Together with HPE OneView is there also a new version of OneView Global Dashboard, that combines all information from multiple OneView instances, deployed as a VM appliance or inside Synergy with its Composer.

These are the new features of OneView Global Dashboard 1.7

  • Users can now view up to 50 appliances vs. 25 appliance with the previous release representing a 100% increase
  • Users can now manage up to 20,000 servers which is an increase of more than 1,500 servers vs. 18,500 with the previous release
  • Users can access HPE OneView Global Dashboard and HPE OneView appliances through the HPE OneView Global Dashboard using IPv4 or IPv6.
  • New Critical Alerts Report lets users view critical alerts by occurrence or by resource type.
